Here are some suggestions for how you can ask for help at home when you need it. Try practicing in the mirror or with a family member. It will probably feel uncomfortable at first, but that’s okay! With practice it will feel easier and easier.

Pick one sentence starter below and practice how you might use it at home:

  • “Can I have a 30-minute break before I start…?”
  • “I felt hurt when you…”
  • “I feel overwhelmed by everything I have to do. What is one thing I should start with?”
  • “It feels unfair when…”
  • “Will you show me how?”
  • “I’m not sure what I need right now. Can you please talk with me?”
