“The feeling that any task is a nuisance will soon disappear if it is done in mindfulness.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh (Buddhism)

THIS WEEK’S LESSON
Mindfulness

Today’s Excerpt:
Stay in the present moment.
Watch “The Hole in the Road” (1-min video) by Headspace.
Discuss:
- What do you think the hole might represent? (Negative patterns we fall into without realizing it.)
Explain that mindfulness is about being present moment to moment. We might be playing, or working, or exercising, or spending time on a digital device, but in all cases if we are mindful, we are aware of what we’re doing and our thoughts and feelings while doing it — so we can avoid falling into harmful patterns.
By being fully present to the moment, we might:
- Shift to new activities when we realize we’re spending hours on a digital device unaware of what our mind and body need (sleep, food, work, rest, exercise, etc.).
- Create more balance when we see we are working incessantly on a project that doesn’t feed our soul.
- Catch ourselves indulging in a mindless activity that is an escape from feeling a difficult emotion.
