“Rhythm is our mother tongue.”
— Gabrielle Roth, dancer

Today’s Excerpt:

Why do you think even thousands of years ago, humans danced?

Some of the oldest cave paintings ever found on Earth show people dancing — suggesting that human beings have been dancing for a very long time.

For instance, here is one cave painting, estimated at more than 13,000 years old, that shows a community dancing together. Such dances were (and still are) often spiritual in nature. By contrast, the oldest religious text ever discovered — the Hindu Rig Veda — is roughly 3,000 years old, suggesting that dance is a much older form of spiritual life than scripture.

People around the world still enjoy dancing today.
